CINAHL Plus with Full Text

(EBSCO) - Provides indexing and abstracting for nursing and allied health journals, providing full text for more than 560 journals indexed in CINAHL. The database contains 600,000 full-text articles dating back to 1937, as well as searchable cited references, legal cases, clinical innovations. critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. Areas covered by the database include nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines.

Cochrane Collection, The

(EBSCO) - provides access to high quality evidence based research, which is used in clinical and he>alth management decision-making. The Cochrane Collection consists of three sections that can be searched separately:

  • Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR)- Contains full text systematic reviews, as well as protocols, focusing on the effects of healthcare. Data is evidence-based medicine and is often combined statistically (with meta-analysis) to increase the power of the findings of numerous studies, each too small to produce reliable results individually.
  • Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE) - Includes abstracts of published systematic reviews on the effects of health care from around the world, which have been critically analyzed according to a high standard of criteria. This database provides access to quality reviews in subjects for which a Cochrane review may not yet exist.
  • Cochrane Controlled Trials Register - A bibliography of controlled trials identified by contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration and others, as part of an international effort to hand search the world's journals and create an unbiased source of data for systematic reviews.
Entrez, The Life Sciences Search Engine

(National Center for Biotechnology Information) - Provides access to searching individual databases (such as PubMed, PubMed Central, OMIN, Gene, BLAST) or to searching across all the NCBI databases simultaneously.

Health and Psychosocial Instruments - HaPI -

(EBSCO) Provides access to information on approximately 15,000 measurement instruments in the fields of health and psychosocial sciences: questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, coding schemes, rating scales, etc. 

Full-text of the instruments is not included in the database. Information in the database is abstracted from hundreds of leading journals covering health sciences and psychosocial sciences. Additionally, instruments from Industrial/Organizational Behavior and Education are included. 

Health and Wellness Resource Center

(GALE) - provides access to medical reference materials including nearly 400 health/medical journals, numerous reference volumes, pamplets, articles and over 700 health videos from Gale's partner Healthology, Inc., Material contained in this Resource Center is intended for informational purposes only.

Health Reference Center-Academic

(Gale/InfoTRAC) - Provides searchable access to popular medical and consumer health information, much of it full-text, including a dictionary, a home medical guide, medical tests, drug information, directories, and pamphlets and articles on health subjects.

Healthy People 2010

Healthy People 2010 provides a framework for prevention for the Nation. It is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats.

MassChip

Massachusetts Community Health Information Profile(Massachusetts Department of Public Health) - provides data at the city or town level, "to access health needs, monitor health status indicators, and evaluate health programs." One of the two options, Instant Reports, is available from the library's workstations. This option gives basic data at the community level (i.e. smoking in Fall River ). Custom Reports, more detailed, are available only to those who download the MassCHIP client into their own computer-this is not possible in the library.

Medline

(EBSCO) - MEDLINE provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree numbers, tree hierarchy and explosion capabilities to search abstracts from over 4,600 current biomedical journals.

MEDLINEplus

(National Library of Medicine) - Provided by the National Library of Medicine for the layperson who wants to research health questions. Includes information on specific health topics, full-text publications, dictionaries, newsletters, and directories.

Nursing & Allied Health Source

(ProQuest) - Covers a wide range of topics, including nursing, allied health, alternative therapies, biomedicine, consumer health and health administration. Contains full text for many nursing and allied health journals for recent years and indexing for prior years. Provides Systematic Reviews, Evidence Summaries, and Best Practice Information Sheets from the renowned Joanna Briggs Institute. Consider also CINAHL Plus with Full Text for a comprehensive indexing source of the nursing and allied health literature.

Pharmaceutical News Index

(ProQuest) - "A database of pharmacological news, research, and regulatory information. Covers the most important specialized publications in the pharmaceutical, health care, biotechnology, and medical device industries"

ProQuest Health and Medical Complete

(ProQuest) - "Designed to serve a wide range of people who need health information -- from hospital administrators to medical professionals to consumers. The database provides coverage from leading health journals and essential medical journals in key medical specialties".

ProQuest Science Journals

(ProQuest) - provides indexing and access to hundreds of social science and related fields journals. Most journals included provide full text. The database covers a wide range of social science topics and disciplines including anthropology, economics, political science, area studies, family studies, community health and medical care, psychology and psychiatry, gerontology, gender studies, minority studies, addiction studies, urban studies, minority studies, planning and public administration, policy studies and international relations and more.

PUBMED

(National Center for Biotechnology Information, NLM) - Provides free access to the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE database. Includes bibliographic citations and abstracts to articles in more than 4600 journals in the fields of pre-clinical sciences, healthcare, clinical medicine, biomedical research, nursing, allied health, among others. Now includes links to full-text articles in PubMed Central.

PubMed Central

(National Center for Biotechnology Information) - Provides free access to full text articles in over 130 life sciences journals. It is linked to PubMed and fully searchable.

Science In Context

(GALE) - contextual information on hundreds of the most current and significant science topics. Merges reference content with full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, experiments, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites organized into a portal environment.

Science Reference Center

(EBSCO) - a general science oriented database with full text for nearly 640 science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, etc. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.

Web of Science

(Thomson Reuters) - Web of Science (Science Citation Index) traces the references at the end of each paper published in a broad collection of 8000 journals in science and engineering. Use this database most efficiently to discover who has cited a paper written in the past. Our library's subscription covers the references from papers published since 1999.
