Howard T. Glasser Archives of Folk Music and Letter Arts

The Howard T. Glasser Archives of Folk Music and Letter Arts were established in 2003 to preserve the artistic and musical collecting legacy of Professor Howard Glasser, with an initial donation of digital copies of all of his Scottish field recordings, many original Eisteddfod recordings, and the programs and flyers from the Carnegie and URI ceilidhs. The Howard T. Glasser Archives Fund was established the following year to help maintain these fragile materials, many of which reside on ageing magnetic reel to reel recording tapes. Since moving to a larger, more suitable location within the Claire T. Carney Library in early 2009, we expanded the vision of the HTG Archives in order to collect other important papers and recordings from a wide range of New England folk groups and gatherings. In 2009 the Tryworks collection was added, along with a collection preserved for many years in the UMD Archives, the papers of the late Paul Clayton. Additional donations since then include recordings at several venues by Clyde Tyndale, a series of concerts and musical events in Cambridge, Massachusetts produced by Peter Johnson, and the ongoing deposit of recordings and programs of the NY Eisteddfod.
